Eternal Sun strengthens global position in solar simulation with acquisition of Wavelabs
Eternal Sun, a leading specialist in solar simulation for photovoltaic testing, has acquired Germany-based Wavelabs. Wavelabs is market leader in the development and production of advanced LED solar simulators for solar cell testing. With this strategic acquisition, Eternal Sun expands its activities into the adjacent market of solar cell testing. The acquisition follows shortly after the investment by Bolster Investment Partners in Eternal Sun in May 2025 and marks a significant step in the company’s international growth strategy.
Strategic expansion in an international growth market
With the integration of Wavelabs, Eternal Sun adds over 40 highly specialized employees, leading LED technology, and a diversified customer base across more than 35 countries to its organization. Both companies are renowned for their technological innovation, customized solutions, and close collaborations with leading solar panel manufacturers and research institutes. The combined group is uniquely positioned to benefit from the global energy transition and the emergence of new technologies such as tandem and perovskite.
Founded in 2011 in Leipzig, Wavelabs develops, manufactures, and installs advanced LED solar simulators for solar cell testing. The company works closely with research institutions and solar cell manufacturers on next-generation solar cell technologies.
Through this acquisition, Eternal Sun significantly expands its international footprint in Germany, the United States, and Asia. In addition, the company’s product portfolio is extended to include LED-based flash simulators for solar cells, which are complementary to Eternal Sun’s module testing equipment.
Bolster supports international buy-and-build strategy
The acquisition of Wavelabs marks a logical next step in Eternal Sun’s international expansion strategy. The company previously acquired Spire Solar (USA) and SunChine (China). With the backing of long-term investor Bolster Investment Partners, Eternal Sun remains focused on scaling up, professionalizing its operations, and pursuing strategic acquisitions.
Florian van Rijn van Alkemade, CEO of Eternal Sun: “With Wavelabs, we are not only gaining access to the solar cell testing market, but also acquiring a highly respected team that operates at the highest level in solar R&D and manufacturing. We look forward to joining forces in order to develop machines for testing future solar panel technologies even faster and more precisely.”
Mark van Rijn, Managing Partner at Bolster Investment Partners: “We are proud to support Eternal Sun in its mission to set the global standard in solar simulation. With this strategic acquisition, the company strengthens its leading position in the solar simulation market. We are excited to contribute to continued innovation and international growth in a sector full of opportunity and technological advancement.”
